Greendale's Adam Karny, a member of the U.S. Army, is recovering from burns to his hands suffered while on active duty in Iraq. The 24-year-old is eager to get back to his unit, the 84th Engineering Battalion.

Oak Creek's parade begins at 9 a.m. at Edgewood School, 8545 S. Shepard Ave., and will wind its way to East Middle School, 9330 S. Shepard Ave. The American Legion Post, 9327 S. Shepard Ave., will host a variety of fun activities, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tee-ball and baseball games will be played from 1 to 4 p.m. Fireworks are at dusk. Check out a full schedule of events.

Fun on the FourthGreendale kicks off its Independence Day festivities with a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at 9 a.m. at the Village Hall flag pole, 6500 Northway. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Grange and Northway, continues to Broad Street and ends at the high school. Fireworks are at dusk. American Legion Post 416 hosts a corn roast from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Gazebo Park. The Lions Club presents a food and beer garden and live music from 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
