Washington vs. Real America

Let's Bring Washington Back to Reality During August Recess

Our economy continues to deteriorate, jobs continue to be lost -- and nothing's changed in Washington.

From their perch on Capitol Hill, Congress has lost touch with what we really need: common sense solutions to create American jobs instead of policies that kill them.

It seems like instead of representing what the American people want, Congress is fighting against it.

This August Recess is our chance to give Congress a dose of reality as they head to their home districts.

There are still a number of issues that need to be addressed -- from paperwork mandates intended to fine small companies out of business or failing to extend tax cuts that will lead to the largest tax hike in history.

Now, the AFL-CIO is launching a concerted campaign to pass "Card Check" during the lame duck session, with AFL-CIO President, Richard Trumka, predicting: "I think you'll see the Employee Free Choice Act come up again. I think you'll see it probably before the end of the year."

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse, we're back up against the toxic Card Check issue and what could be the largest tax hike in history.

This August recess is your opportunity to take a final stand for common sense solutions that will get America back to work.

And if they won't listen, remind them again this November.

P.S. If you attend a town hall forum this August, bring your camera along and send us your footage. We'd love to hear what members of Congress are really saying to their constituents.
