QUOTES OF THE WEEK

“Muslims have the right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan”
Barack Obama

“I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there. I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding.”
Barack Obama

“(The Ground Zero Mosque is) a real affront to people who lost their lives. That site doesn't belong to any particular religion, it belongs to all Americans and all faiths.”
Howard Dean

“The 1st Amendment protects freedom of religion. Sen. (Harry) Reid respects that, but thinks that the mosque should be built someplace else”
Reid assistant Jim Manley explains Harry Reid's position on the Ground Zero Mosque.

“In a breathtakingly inappropriate setting, the president has chosen to declare our memories of 9/11 obsolete and the sanctity of Ground Zero finished. No one who has lived this history and felt the sting of our country’s loss that day can truly believe that putting our families through more wrenching heartache can be an act of peace.”
Debra Burlingame, the co-founder of 9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America

"Now that construction unions in New York are refusing to build the 9-11 mosque, expect illegal aliens to do it.  Illegals do the work Americans just won't do."
The blog Rantismo.

“I think fighting dishonesty with dishonesty is sometimes the right thing for advocates to do, yes. That's an honest view.”
Liberal blogger Matt Yglesias

America is the only developed nation that allows illegal aliens to gain full citizenship for their children merely by dropping them on U.S. soil.”
Conservative blogger Ann Coulter

“It was something he certainly didn't have to do. But he did it anyway. President Obama stepped into the fray of the single most divisive issue pertaining to terrorism, healing of hurt, religious disagreement, civil liberties, political fracturing, racism, and national security all in one step.

How's that for bringing us all together?

Why a sitting President feels compelled to sit down to a formal Muslim dinner in the first place begs the issue of necessity. After all, why not send them a nice little video-taped greeting like you did the Boy Scouts of America? I mean it's not like it was the 100th Anniversary of Iftar.

Conservative blogger Kevin McCullough

"I'd love to order one roll of toilet paper and send it back to the federal government because I'm not going to do the paperwork for the $49.”
Mark Lichte, superintendent of the Lake Country School District in Waukesha County. The MJS reports Governor Doyle “chose to distribute $179 million in federal money to help save teacher jobs in Wisconsin by using the state's general formula for divvying up aid to school districts.” Under the formula, the Lake Country School District received only $49 in federal aid.

They should go to any of the dozen new battery factories, or the new electrical vehicle manufacturers, or the new wind turbine makers, or the solar plants that are popping up all over this country, and they should have to explain why they think these clean energy jobs are better off being made in Germany or China or Spain, instead of right here in the United States.”
President Barack Obama, during a speech at Menomonee Falls-based energy storage firm ZBB Energy Corp.

“Perhaps ZBB Energy Corp. will eventually prove to be the Google of the battery business, but then again Google didn't need taxpayer help.”
The Wall Street Journal criticizing the Obama administration for pumping money into an business that is losing millions of dollars each year.

“I hope Barack Obama comes here 100 times. Barack Obama's coattails in Wisconsin will amount to an anchor around the necks of Barrett and Feingold.”
State GOP chairman Reince Priebus

“I have been a runner, basketball player and hunter all my life, but I have to say this is the most unique sporting contest I have ever participated in.”
GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Neumann on winning a beer stein-holding contest in Milwaukee.
