VILLAINS OF THE WEEK
QUOTES OF THE WEEK
“We cannot sit this one out. We can’t let this country fall backwards because the rest of us didn’t care enough to fight.”
President Barack Obama at a rally in
"Our energy is coming from the ground up, and they're trying to generate energy from the top down.”
Wisconsin GOP Chairman Reince Priebus who also said attempting to get Democrats excited about the election is "like trying to raise the living dead."
“The Washington Republican hacks said that I didn't want to be here today, and the national press just ate it up. Well, it's a crock. Why wouldn't I want to be here? This is fantastic.”
U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Middleton) on his last-minute decision to attend the Obama rally in
Vice President Joe Biden chastising the party’s base while campaigning for Democratic candidates in
“It’s idiotic is what it is. If Democrats, with the White House and Congressional super-majorities, had delivered on what they had promised, and if people had jobs, no one would be whining. They have reaped what they sowed. They haven’t delivered on what they’ve promised — and instead of making the case as to why they would do if they are reelected, they are insulting people. It’s a far cry from Bill Clinton’s ‘I feel your pain’.”
“Twenty-one months after taking office, this administration continues to blame the last one for all its problems. President Obama has gone on a campaign tour of the country to rally Democratic voters the same way Biden has: by blaming everything on Bush. Mr. President, for once you should listen to your VP. Stop whining. We're all really tired of it.”
New Hampshire Union Leader editorial
"I want to thank you for being the toughest leader any country can ask for in the toughest times any country has ever faced.”
White House Chief of Staff Rham Emanuel speaking to President Obama as he announced he’s leaving his post.
"Emanuel should have been thrilled if these were truly the ‘toughest times.’ Hey, and just how many times is it appropriate to go on vacation (or to go golfing) in the toughest times in the history of the country?"
Conservative writer Lorie Byrd
“It's definitely a bump in the road, but there's no way in the world I get out of this campaign. I plan on whipping the cancer and winning the campaign.”
GOP Senate candidate Ed Thompson on a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer that will take him off the campaign trail. He’s running against Dem Kathleen Vinehout.
“My story also illustrates how dire my future might have been if we had socialized medicine. What if the government had told me I had to wait in a 6 month line to get a CT scan? Or that I couldn’t have Dr. Ludwig perform the surgery? That’s unacceptable to me and my family.”
GOP Lt. Gov. candidate Rebecca Kleefisch criticizing federal health care reform after announcing she had surgery in September to remove a cancerous tumor from her colon.
“In the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, he eliminated his office of economic growth. That'll tell you that it's not a priority.”
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett criticizing
“As county executive I made a pledge to hold the line on taxes, in fact I’ve done it eight consecutive years. That’s something I didn’t just have an election-year conversion on.”
Scott Walker criticizing Tom Barrett about his recently proposed city budget.
