Thankful for Life

There is much to be thankful for at Thanksgiving 2010.   Here are the top ten reasons for which we give thanks.

  1. A loving God whose work we accomplish.
  2. Our new right-to-life Governor, Congressmen and state legislators who give renewed breath and dimension to public policy efforts to protect human life.
  3. Our Wisconsin abortion and assisted suicide bans which remain in place.
  4. Babies saved from abortion.
  5. Mothers who rejected abortion and are spared a lifetime of emotional pain.
  6. Fathers who love and support their wives and nurture their children.
  7. Contributors to Wisconsin Right to Life who make our work possible.
  8. Volunteers who keep the cause alive and growing.
  9. Young people who give right-to-life efforts a great future.
  10. The precious gift of life itself which we all enjoy.

Thanksgiving blessings to you!

Fight Begins Over Key House Chairmanship

The House Energy and Commerce Committee holds critical importance in the upcoming session of Congress. This committee will lead the fight to repeal or water down Obamacare and is also the place where numbers of key right-to-life issues land, particularly in the Subcommitteee on Health.

“There is no committee of the House of Representative that has policy and oversight jurisdiction over as many areas of concern to the pro-life movement as the House Committee on Energy and Commerce,” writes National Right to Life in a letter to the House Republican Steering Committee. “These include major federal health programs (most of which involve abortion policy issues), regulation of biomedical research (including research involving human embryos), and regulation of drugs (including abortion-inducing drugs), to name a few.”

In line to chair this powerful committee is Rep. Fred Upton, no friend to the right-to-life movement, having compiled one of the weakest right-to-life voting records over the past 24 years. Upton is a major fan of Planned Parenthood.

National Right to Life has asked the House Steering Committee to deny this chairmanship to Upton. If for reasons of seniority he is given the chairmanship, NRLC is asking that Congressman Joe Pitts be named chair of the Health Subcommittee where most of these matters land. NRLC further requests that vacancies in the Health Subcommittee be filled by Members who are “firmly committed to pro-life positions.”

Planned Parenthood and NARAL are vehemently opposed to the appointment of Pitts as Health Subcommittee Chair.

This fight is a test for the heart and soul of the new Congress. Will they lead on dismantling Obamacare and protecting human life, or cave in to the pro-abortion lobby?

The 2011 Wisconsin Right to Life - Christian Life Resources Legislative Conference will be held on Tuesday, February 15 at the Best Western Inn on the Park in Madison, directly across from the State Capitol. The theme of this year's conference is Protecting the Vulnerable - Moving Forward.

We will once again have an array of outstanding speakers which will include legislative leaders, capitol staffers and experts on right-to-life issues.

Our keynote luncheon speaker is Father Francis J. "Rocky" Hoffman.  Rev. Francis J. Hoffman "Fr. Rocky" serves as Executive Director of Relevant Radio. Fr. Hoffman is not a newcomer to Relevant Radio. In 2004, Fr. Hoffman began as a special guest on Morning Air. He then joined the Morning Air team on Tuesday mornings for the regularly scheduled "Question and Answer" segment. Fr. Rocky is also one of the hosts for Go Ask Your Father, which debuted on July 6, 2009. Read Father Rocky's full biography (PDF) here

High school students, collegians and adults will all find this conference interesting and helpful. Attendees will learn how the legislative process works, how to "lobby" your legislators, what right-to-life issues are on the docket for the 2011-2012 legislative session and much more!

Bus transportation is available from several areas of the state.  See details on the registration form.  The registration fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch and all conference materials.

Visit the Legislative Conference webpage for more details and to access the Registration Form.

The "Opt-Out Petition" is addressed and directed to Wisconsin's new Governor, Scott Walker.  It reads, "I want the State of Wisconsin to Opt-Out of Mandated Taxpayer Dollars for Abortion Coverage Resulting from the Federal Health Care Plan (Obamacare) passed in Washington, DC."

Opt-out legislation cannot be introduced until January of 2011. Click here to add your name to this petition so that our new Governor knows that thousands of Wisconsin citizens share his belief that Wisconsin taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize abortion.
