It's Friday night. Time to unwind with our regular Friday night feature on This Just In.
The weekend has finally arrived.
The sun has set.
The evening sky has erupted.
Let's put controversy and provocative blogs aside for the rest of this work week and smooth our way into Saturday and Sunday.
Tonight, more great sounds of the season from some performers that might be new to you.
We begin in a big way.
Every year, smooth jazz saxophonist Dave Koz puts together a list of musician friends that go on tour in December for special Christmas concerts. It’s a great show and if you haven’t seen it, there’s a CD available, “Smooth Jazz Christmas by Dave Koz & Friends” featuring vocalist Brenda Russell, pianist David Benoit, guitarist Peter White, and trumpeter Rick Braun.
The opening track of the Dave Koz CD featuring the above folks is a very, very nice medley.
We’re just getting started.
Dave Koz brings his Christmas show to the Chicago Theatre tomorrow (Saturday) night.
Next up, music even softer and mellower.
It's a classic written and performed originally by the late Vince Guaraldi that has become a Christmas standard.
Lots of kids.....
Here's a nice arrangement and rendition by saxophonist Denis Solee and the Jeff Steinberg Orchestra.
The Jeff Steinberg Orchestra has also recorded with Beegie Adair. The pianist has been featured in the past on This Just In….
“Once in a while a musician comes along with impeccable technique, deep understanding of the jazz repertoire, an innate tendency to swing and the rare ability to communicate the heart and soul of a tune to listeners. That musician is Beegie Adair.
About her music Adair says, ‘Falling in love with jazz is like falling in love with a person, except with jazz you never get over it.’ About Beegie (say B-G) Adair, what do others say?
Jazz great Helen Merrill salutes her ‘inventive jazz sense, her wonderful sense of time and improvised melody.’
Christopher Louden of Jazz Times magazine says Adair is ‘an accomplished artist with a delicate touch.’
The Los Angeles Times calls her music ‘Elegant.’
Entertainment News writes, ‘Beegie Adair is one of the finest piano players in the world’.”
Here, the Beegie Adair Trio play what very soon will become an all too familiar tune.
That's it for this Friday's segment.
And don't forget when you wake up Saturday for our next installment of The Music of Christmas, a daily musical feature right up until Christmas Eve.
We close with another classic and breathtaking scenery from
Have a great weekend.
