Conservatively Speaking

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Senate Democrats found in contempt

Shortly after 4:00 PM, the Wisconsin State Senate Chief Clerk read the names of the absent Senators to give them one final chance to appear. When they did not reply to the roll call, the 14 Senate Democrats were found guilty of contempt and disorderly behavior by the State Senate.

It was a somber scene in the Senate Chamber as Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald signed orders holding all 14 Senate Democrats in contempt of the Senate. The order to hold the Senators in contempt authorizes law enforcement throughout Wisconsin to detain and bring Senators to the State Senate Chamber.

It is truly sad that it has come to this. By refusing to show up and do their jobs, the 14 Senate Democrats violate Senate rules and ignore the Wisconsin Constitution.
