The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
has the news:

“In the tightest limits yet seen in Wisconsin, property taxes would be essentially frozen for two years and then placed under tight permanent caps, under a budget proposal advanced by GOP lawmakers Thursday.

On a 12-4 party-line vote, the Joint Finance Committee largely stuck with Gov. Scott Walker's budget proposal and approved freezing property taxes for counties and municipalities for two years with growth in the levy limited to the value of new construction. In the following years, taxes would be limited to either 1.5% a year or the value of new construction, whichever is higher.”

RUMBLE

The news shook across Franklin like a powerful earthquake.

At tax and spend happy City Hall and Franklin Public School System HQ, the reaction was the same:

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Frozen property taxes?

For two years?

1.5% the following years?

Audible gasps were heard across the 53132 zip code.

Sources tell me some Franklin school board members and aldermen were brought to tears.

Franklin mayor Tom Taylor didn’t know how to react until his right hand finance director Cal Patterson prepared a special report.

Can you imagine? Franklin property taxpayers probably felt like throwing ticker tape parades.

Franklin elected officials accustomed to sucking at the taxpayer trough like big fat pigs were ready to jump off the Hoan Bridge.

You can almost sense the anguish, the pain, the sorrow, the wailing and gnashing of teeth being felt by Franklin’s tax and spenders, i.e. aldermen and school board members.

CAN’T RAISE TAXES?

NOW WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO?

Think about the how phony conservative, alderman Steve Taylor is feeling right about now. He plastered BUSH stickers on his folders. He told everybody and his uncle how he worked for Scott Walker’s campaign just to fool people.

Hmmm…Scott Walker always submitted and supported budgets with zero property tax increases? Steve Taylor? Not so much.

Aldermen Kristen Wilhelm and Tim (dress like a hobo) Solomon are on record saying budgets simply can’t be done without tax increases. They must be in the fetal position.

Alderman Doug Schmidt feels like a dozen bowling balls just hit him in the head.

Alderman Ken Skowronski: Uhh, Mayor Taylor, is this good or bad?

School Superintendent Steve Patz: I’m sorry. I was working on my resume. What happened?

School Board President: Debbie Larson: It’s those damn bloggers!

School Board Vice President Jeff Traylor: Oh my God! Now I really do have to figure out what fiscal responsibility means. Mama!

School Board member Judith Bialk:  Ummmm, excuse me. Oh yeh. It’s for the children.

Former School Board member David Works: I’m not on the board anymore, but if I was, I’d be upset. Can that comment be off the record?

Thank you, legislative Republicans for interceding and doing what so many local officials refused to do, including one right here in Franklin who used his supposed support for you as a phony campaign issue to get re-elected.

You ACTED to provide real honest to goodness property tax relief. Unfortunately, 11 of the 14 elected aldermen and school board members and the mayor in Franklin refused to show leadership and employ fiscal responsibility. You needed to come through and did. Again, thank you.
