It's Friday night. Time to unwind with our regular Friday night feature on This Just In.

The weekend has finally arrived.

The sun has set.

The evening sky has erupted.

Let's put controversy and provocative blogs aside for the rest of this work week and smooth our way into Saturday and Sunday.

For the past 89 weeks or so we’ve been nostalgic. On occasion we get very contemporary with new music. Such is the case tonight. So sit back, relax, enjoy.

We begin with bassist-extraordinaire Brian Bromberg. The website allmusic.com writes:

“Few are the bass players who the average music fan can name. There are simply not that many who stand out as more than a member of the rhythm section, however tight. Paul McCartney. Sting. Bootsy Collins. Tony Levin. Gene Simmons. These may be the greater part of a list that, for most, is no larger than one hand long. Shorter still is the list of bassists who can take their playing one step further.Brian Bromberg is one such bass player. Having originally begun his musical career on drums, Bromberg soon switched to classical upright bass. Though this switch was more or less his choice, Bromberg's next musical move was more demanded than decided: in order to get a gig with Stan Getz's band, Bromberg dropped the upright, picked up an electric four-string and, leaving home on his 19th birthday, started down his own musical road less taken. Since then, Bromberg has played with a long list of musical giants, from Stan Getz to James Moody, from Diane Schurr to Nancy Wilson. He has also been heard (and seen) in many popular films and programs, from The Fabulous Baker Boys to Melrose Place.”

One of three Bromberg albums released this summer is “Compared To That.” Of the title track, Bromberg says, “It sounds like ‘60s-‘70s nightclub jazz. It absolutely has that vibe.”

The Barking Lot

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of this just in…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY: As we post, here in God's country (Franklin) as the sun rises, it's about 50 degrees. A bit nippy for early risers, but we're headed for a sunny high of 74. "A"

SUNDAY: Sunny. Some reports have a high of 80. We'll call it 77. "A" Get out and enjoy this wonderful weekend!

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

Growing up, my family did not own Ninja-style stealth dogs. We could hear them easily before we saw them thanks to the “tinkle tinkle” sound of the tags on their collars but mostly because of the “clickety clack” of their paws on our floors. Their toe nails gave them away Every. Single. Time. They didn’t stand a chance trying to sneak up on us even if they wanted to.

My Basenji was particularly NOT fond of having her nails cut. She was a pristine little lady in many respects but was never up for a “pawdicure.” (Sure, she let me POLISH her nails but only because she knew the clipper was nowhere in sight.) Her not-terribly-large-or-muscular body could put up QUITE a struggle (think greased pig!) when it was time to trim. We used to have to literally wait for her to fall into a deep sleep and then snip a couple before she awoke. Fortunately for her, this did not exist when she was with us. I can guarantee you that would NOT have been the answer to our dilemma!

If you’ve ever owned a dog with NailTrimAPhobia you can completely relate. Still, it’s a very important aspect of your pet’s overall heath. While it might be easier to let your groomer handle the task, you can certainly try to accomplish this at home. Perhaps some of these tips (no, a bad pun was NOT intended) will make it easier and less stressful for everyone involved. GOOD LUCK!

Who’s David Walker, you ask?

David Walker is the former US comptroller general and he’s bring his “$10 Million a Minute” tour to Pewaukee. What’s the meaning of $10 million a minute? Walker wrote a piece for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Crossroads section today. Here’s an excerpt from the column:

“If there was ever a time when we needed leadership, not partisanship, from our candidates and elected officials, it is now. The fiscal hole we have dug for ourselves is far worse than the $16 trillion in national debt that we often hear about. The truer measure of our debt obligations includes the unfunded promises and liabilities from social insurance programs such as Social Security and Medicare and various retirement programs - and that figure is a whopping $70 trillion. And it is increasing by $10 million a minute.”

Walker categorizes that scenario as a “moral travesty.”

I blogged about Walker four years ago when he began his crusade to inform and warn the taxpaying public that a fiscal disaster was at hand. The process of approving the construction of a Meijer’s store in Franklin, as is typical here, continues to drag.

At its last meeting on September 4, the Franklin Common Council set tonight’s meeting as a deadline for Meijer to work with the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to meet certain requirements. That’s not happening.

Brian Randall, a representative for Meijer wrote the city of Franklin informing that Meijer consultants have been working to clarify their local mitigation plan, but the work is ongoing. The DNR also wants to meet with Meijer to go over the DNR permit application.

As a result, Meijer is asking the Franklin Common Council to delay this issue until the October 2, 2012 meeting. Meijer wants the extra time to be able to have a more thorough presentation for the Common Council next month.

Funny, these tacks in the road don’t seem to be surfacing in other places where Meijer wants to go like Wauwatosa and Grafton.

The city tax RATE is meaningless. It’s the property tax LEVY that’s crucial. The LEVY is what we all need to focus on.

Determination: A message from the Tea Party Patriots

Determination

Over the last several weeks, I have received emails from some of our supporters who say they think the system is so broken it cannot be fixed and our efforts are futile. They are angry at the Republican nominee who does not fight hard enough for our core values. They are angry at the Republican “leadership” in the House who are spineless and unable to make any real spending cuts.

At the same time, I have also had emails and conversations with Patriots who say they simply cannot sleep at night because they fret as they lay down that they may not have done everything within their power each day to make the most difference and impact they possibly can leading to Election Day. One Local Coordinator in the Orlando, Florida area mentally checks off all he has done each day to spread the word on our core values and if he fell short one day he knows what he must do different the next day. Another Local Coordinator in Virginia wakes up at 2 am each night and starts thinking about what he needs to do the next day to insure he is teaching everyone he meets what is at stake in November. These men are angry with Republicans as much as the emails from the people who are discouraged. They see our choice in 50 days as a stark contrast and are motivated to fight.

This week as I watched breaking news as our embassies were stormed in the Middle East and then around the world, bomb threats, university evacuations, Congress passing a Continuing Resolution to continue spending and to fund Obamacare for 6 months, the announcement of another quantitative easing that will be indefinite rather than fixed. The problems we face as a country seem overwhelming and often times impossible.

Two weeks ago on our webinar with Local Coordinators, one coordinator said that since the Supreme Court ruling on the President’s health care law she feels “grim determination.”Determination.

Dictionary.com defines determination as the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose; the quality of being resolute; firmness of purpose. Synonyms for determination are bravery, backbone, dedication, drive, persistence, and resolution.

As I read the breaking news this week, I am once again reminded of Winston Churchill’s quote, which I have quoted countless times to our Tea Party Patriots supporters, “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever give up.” I am also reminded of our Support Team member Keli Carender’s favorite quote, again by Sir Winston Churchill,

“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

The election this November is going to determine 2 different futures for our country. President Obama had it right at the DNC Convention when he said this election is, “a choice between 2 different paths for America, a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.” President Obama has all but declared he will be a dictator if re-elected and Congress stands in his way. Those of us in Tea Party Patriots will have seen that and said he is doing it already throughout his first term in presidency. Now he is being so bold that he says it outright in the Time magazine interview:

"So my expectation is that there will be some popping of the blister after this election, because it will have been such a stark choice. Where Republicans refuse to cooperate on things that I know are good for the American people, I will continue to look for ways to do it administratively and work around Congress. And a good example of that is, for example, making sure that homeowners around the country can take advantage of these historically low rates and refinance.

There’s no reason Congress can’t move forward and at almost no cost to the federal government really boost the housing market and our economy. But if Congress won’t do it, we’ll keep on looking for ways to get that done without legislation."

If we as citizens allow a man who is very clearly saying there are two different choices for America and his way is to implement his agenda with or without Congressional approval, we are giving permission to this behavior.

Ours is a “choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future:” one where we adhere to the Constitution, the checks and balances, and maintain the rights of the citizens as ordained by our Creator not by our government or one where we allow a statist government, allow breaches in the rule of law to occur without checks or balances, where freedom will slip away at the cost of security and whatever the government decides we are entitled to have. Simply put the choice is freedom or serfdom.

You are reading this and involved in Tea Party Patriots because you choose freedom.

As soon as the elections are over, our work must continue and continue at full force no matter the outcome and especially if the Republicans win the Senate and the White House. The lack of true leadership in the Republican Party is startling. The fact that the Republicans just passed a deal with the Democrats to fund Obamacare for 6 months, a law that the vast majority of Americans want repealed. The fact that both parties and mostly the Republicans are backing off the forced sequestration cuts forged by the debt deal of last summer – just 14 months ago. Since Congress cannot even be trusted to keep the promises and laws in tact that they passed less than 18 months ago, we know we must watch every single thing they do to insure we return to a fiscally responsible, constitutionally limited government once more. We have and will continue to hold both parties accountable because we know politicians and parties are fallible. We will continue to defend, support, and endorse our core values because they will not fail us.

The challenge is daunting especially when looking at what has happened in America in just the past week. But, compared to other challenges America has faced in her history, is this challenge truly impossible for us? Our country started against all odds when a ragtag army stood up to the greatest empire in the world and demanded their freedom. Many said it could not be done. Most governments are designed to restrict the governed but we are a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Our country grew from a small nation to one capable of saving the world from Nazism. We defeated communism in the Cold War. Our free market system invented the modern world: light bulbs, telephones, airplanes, personal computers, ipods, iphones, and Google. Americans have consistently taken the more difficult road, beat the odds, and created a better future than most thought possible.

Our job is to remind our fellow citizens that our Constitution and the rights guaranteed therein are what made America’s accomplishments possible. We must remind these citizens what is a stake and what the two choices for America’s future are. We must remind them that our choice for freedom is what they want for America as well. It will not be easy. Like the coordinators who have grim determination and cannot rest without thinking about all they are capable of doing to preserve our freedom, we too must evaluate our actions through Election Day and immediately following so our country’s voters choose the future of freedom on November 6. Join us to make the call, walk the neighborhoods, send the postcards, and do all the work it takes to insure there are more of us who cherish freedom than those who are willing to slide into serfdom on November 6. Then be prepared to keep fighting as soon as elections are over because the work of accountability will be just as urgent and perhaps even more difficult.

We can still beat the odds! We can prevent America’s bankruptcy and create a more prosperous America than ever. If, today, right now, we make the right choice for the vision of our future and fight “when our victory will be sure and not too costly.”

Let us have the determination, the boldness, the persistence, the courage, the perseverance, against all odds to create a more productive, prolific, prosperous, and plentiful America than ever before!

Pro-school referenda propaganda machine begins at FranklinNOW

FranklinNOW’s ace reporter Rick (I’ll print whatever somebody tells me but I refuse to ask a tough question) Romano is officially responsible for launching the pro-Franklin multi-school referenda propaganda on this website. It began at 5:20 this afternoon.

In an incredibly weak opening to his article, Romano told us the painfully obvious: there are three referendum questions asking for massive property tax increases on the November ballot.

DUH, Rick. Old news in the lead? Shame on you and your editor for not catching and demanding a far better lead.

Read Romano’s piece and you learn immediately his and FranklinNOW’s MO: Talk and build up these referenda (tax increases).

Romano first ran to the #1 Jesse James, Franklin superintendent Steve Patz for this ingenious quote:

"We wanted to make sure that people really understand that these are three separate questions, three separate votes."

Thus, Romano's freshman journalism class student lead in his less than breath-taking article (We'll link later).

Patz's quote is from a man who has more than one degree and earns more than the Governor. Thank you, Steve, for stating the incredibly obvious. Even worse, when the quote was uttered, Romano no doubt scribbled it down with extreme glee.

Here’s the key line from Romano’s short article:

"NOW will present detailed breakdowns of each question in the coming weeks."

Oh, I bet they will, with every spin and every sob story with little if anything published from the opposition to counter.

Thankfully, there are bloggers to fill in the huge spaces left by the media and the likes of Romano.

So, Rick, and anyone else at FranklinNOW, try to sell this craziness. Automatically publish whatever you're fed. Go ahead. Make my day.

Mayor Taylor's "responsible" budget really is

Franklin mayor Tom Taylor has submitted his 2013 city budget to the Franklin Common Council that calls for a .3% property tax levy increase. Taylor attributed the slight increase to new construction growth in Franklin saying Franklin is one of the few municipalities in the state experiencing such growth.

In making his presentation to the Common Council Tuesday night, Taylor called his budget “responsible.” The mayor kept the budget increase to a fraction even though budget requests by departments came in at $879,000 above available revenues.

Franklin’s Director of Administration Mark Luberda said the budget “preserves city services.”

Both Taylor and Luberda touted that the proposed budget does not increase the tax rate. For the umpteenth time, the tax rate is meaningless. The levy is the key budget piece and a .3% property tax levy increase is, indeed, a responsible budget during these rocky economic times. It certainly is possible for the Common Council to knock the very small increase down to zero.

If only the Franklin Public School administration and school board would follow suit.

A new poll shows Tammy Baldwin with a big lead over Tommy Thompson in the race for the US Senate. Is it because Wisconsin voters think Baldwin is by far the better choice? No.

Baldwin had the luxury of sitting back during a bitterly contested GOP primary and rake in national money that she is now using to inundate the airwaves. Tommy Thompson following the primary was tapped out and has been unable to match the airwaves war that Baldwin is waging. Note that Baldwin in her TV ads doesn't talk about her extreme leftist record.

This can change, but it will take dollars.

WASHINGTON - Congressional budget analysts are now estimating that nearly 6 million Americans - most of them in the middle class - will have to pay a tax penalty for not getting health insurance once President Barack Obama's health care law is fully in place.

That's 2 million more than a previous estimate found, or a 50 percent increase. The average penalty will be nearly $1,200.

Starting in 2014, the new health care law requires virtually every legal resident of the U.S. to carry health insurance, or face a tax penalty. The Supreme Court upheld Obama's law as constitutional after finding that the penalty fell within the power of Congress to impose taxes.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday the penalty will raise $6.9 billion when fully in effect in 2016.

Franklin school referenda propaganda operation has begun...but we're watching

Franklin property taxpayers, keep this critical point in mind between now and Election Day, November 6:

The Franklin Public School administration, staff, employees, and some members of the Franklin School Board will do and say anything, anything in order to get three school facilities referenda approved.

The spin machine is already in motion.

I’m sure you received a card (that you paid for) in the mail informing about all the places you can find information about the three huge property tax increases on the ballot November 6.

Talk about your kitchen sink. There’s a website, future mailings, information fairs, planned tours, group presentations. As expected, folks, they’re pulling out all the stops.

It's Friday night. Time to unwind with our regular Friday night feature on This Just In.

The weekend has finally arrived.

The sun has set.

The evening sky has erupted.

Let's put controversy and provocative blogs aside for the rest of this work week and smooth our way into Saturday and Sunday.

Tonight...a reluctant farewell to summer that ends tomorrow, Saturday, with the first day of autumn.

In the upper Midwest, summer is cherished, cradled, fondled, elevated to a gigantic, almost constant ongoing party, until suddenly, it's gone, blown away by frosty winds.

Three months of summer are instantly replaced by a week or two of fall, followed by what seems to be an interminable winter.

Ahh, summertime was just beginning, and the livin’ was easy.

Our next performer hails from London though she's originally from Poland. Her full name is Basia Trzetrzelewska, but the music world knows her as Basia.

Basia loved American music, especially jazz. After failing to catch on as a singer in the Chicago area, she moved to London in 1981 and joined the group, Matt Bianco. The band's first album was a big success, and Basia and keyboardist Danny White left to perform under the name, Basia and immediately hit it big with popular-selling albums until 1995. About that time, Basia cut back on her recording, saying her mother's death and wars throughout the world made it difficult for her to sing upbeat material.

Danny White persuaded her to return with him to the Matt Bianco band that got back together again. A world tour emerged, and then Basia and White left Matt Bianco again.

Last year, Basia released, "It's That Girl Again" that features, "Blame it on the Summer."

ObamaCare Cuts Deep, $716 Billion Nationwide From Medicare

Madison, WI - A newly released study from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management delivered some bad news to Wisconsin seniors. Because of Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin and the disastrous healthcare law she rammed through Congress, seniors in Wisconsin will see $9.4 billion cut from their Medicare. "The harsh reality of Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin's healthcare law is setting in," said spokeswoman Lisa Boothe. "In Wisconsin alone, her healthcare law will cut $9.6 billion from the seniors who depend on Medicare. Not only was she a reliable vote for President Obama, but she has openly advocated for a complete and total takeover of healthcare. Her partisan vote wasn't just costly for the families who have seen their premiums go up, but Wisconsin seniors have been hit hard by the disastrous law. Governor Thompson has been a strong voice on the need to repeal the law. If elected, he will fight to restore those funds, and will work to preserve Medicare for current seniors and protect it for future generations."

As a reminder, President Obama's campaign recently bragged that the healthcare law cut $716 billion from Medicare, which includes $200 billion from Medicare Advantage and $150 billion from hospitals, nursing homes and hospices.

Culinary no-no's

FOOD BLOGS, BUT ONLY ONE CULINARY NO-
NO!

On occasion, Culinary no-no can be quite provocative. This week is one of those occasions.

Observe.

Those would be members of the Tea Party. The Tea Party Patriots officially describe themselves this way:

“The Tea Party movement spontaneously formed in 2009 from the reaction of the American people to fiscally irresponsible actions of the federal government, misguided “stimulus” spending, bailouts and takeovers of private industry. Within the first few weeks of the movement, Tea Party Patriots formed to support the millions of Americans seeking to improve our great nation through renewed support for fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free market economic policies.

“The Tea Party Patriots’ mission is to restore America’s founding principles of Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government and Free Markets.”

The movement’s core principles: Fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free market economics.

As such, the movement is often at odds with…

Thus, Tea Party members, like those pictured above have been labeled by the left as:

RACIST!

The race card is played all too often in this highly politically-charged environment, predominantly and most of the time when the player is bankrupt on facts, substantiations, winning arguments.

BOOM! Out it comes.

Gotcha!

It takes a nanosecond to scream

Refuting the usually absurd, false accusation requires a bit more time and the players fully understand this stealth strategy.

We'll, as you know, get to it.

It never ceases to amaze that supposedly highly-educated folks in positions of running our schools and teaching our children can be so void of simple common sense. It’s kind of scary that they can lack some basic smarts.

Let’s move out west, shall we and thank you for your patience. It’ll be worth it.

The motto for Portland has been, "The City that Works." But if you drive around this Oregon city, you'll see plenty of bumper stickers and signs that say:

What I’m about to share with you demonstrates that Portland is weird, and then some.

Seems the Portland school district is taking great effort to eradicate what it considers any emphasis that promotes “white culture” and “white privilege.”

Why, you ask?

No, silly. That’s not racist. No way. You’re obviously not nearly as smart as a public school employee.

Don’t you understand? When there’s promotion of “white culture” or “white privilege,” then a performance gap between white and non-white students is inevitable.

How does the Portland School district know that? Because it has spent over half a million dollars to find out, that’s why.

I know. I know. Some of you are still scratching your heads. Can’t we just talk about pizza?

That's Harvey Scott School Principal Dr. Verenice Gutierrez leading a discussion about race with her staff just before the beginning of the school year. I don't care how many degrees Gutierrez has, she's an idiot.

Last school year, a teacher talked about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich during a lesson. Gutierrez pounced.

“What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?” says Gutierrez. "Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”

Translation: The classic PB & J conveys "white culture" and "whtie privilege." The mere mention of the sandwich contributes to a decline in student performance.

As absurd and ridiculous as it sounds, the Portland school district considers...

RACIST!

Ironically and not surprisingly, Verenice (Darn that white culture) Gutierrez is principal of a failing school. It’s gotta be that damn sandwich.
