State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.
Here is the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article about yesterday’s Transportation and Elections Committee informational hearing.
As explained in the article, Senators and Representatives currently represent new districts within boundaries established by Act 43, redistricting legislation approved earlier this year. However, recall petitions and recall elections would be conducted using old, unconstitutional maps from the 2000 census. This results in voters from old unconstitutional districts choosing State Senators for citizens in the new district resulting from the 2010 census. In addition, some people in the new district are denied voting for the State Senator that represents them. That strikes me as completely unfair.
