State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

This week was the final week of the Legislative Fall Session.  There was a plethora of bills, and meetings. 

Monday, I chaired a seven and a half hour Senate Committee on Transportation and Elections meeting beginning at 1:00 PM at the Capitol.  The committee heard public testimony for bills about an elected Milwaukee County Comptroller, railroad crossings, bike law, and election laws.   

Tuesday included apublic hearing and executive session in the Senate Committee on Labor, Public Safety, and Public Affairs, anexecutive session in the Senate Committee on Transportation and Elections, and caucusing with fellow Senate Republicans. 

Wednesday began with an 8:15 AM Transportation Projects Commission meeting at the Governor’s office.  The committee approved preliminary steps for six major highway projects including I-94 from 70th Street to 25th street.  The commission gave approval for the Department of Transportation to begin the Verona Road project within Dane County.  The State Senate started debate at 12:30 PM  and continued until close to 8:00 PM .  The senate approved two special session bills, eight appointments, three joint resolutions, and 19 regular session bills.  The senate approved  Senate Bill 237, a bill I authored, to restore local control for sex education .   

Thursday the senate took up six bills including Assembly Bill 69, known as the Castle Doctrine.  After interesting debate, the State Senate added an amendment to Assembly Bill 69 and approved the bill with a 26-7 vote. 

Friday morning included taping a segment for Sunday morning 9:00 AM channel 12 UpFront with Mike Gousha   Friday evening I am a celebrity waitress for The Interfaith Senior Programs Fish Fry at Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee. Come on down, the food is wonderful!
