This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Hey brother, can you spare the city of Franklin $150,000

City of Franklin leaders, our elected officials, are not exactly renowned for their fiscal prowess. Sorry. That’s just a fact.

Spend now, spend a lot now, pay later.

Cut spending? Are you crazy?

"No" is not in their vocabulary.

If you dare criticize, you are labeled the problem. You obviously aren’t as smart as they are and don’t realize what you are talking about.

You’re too negative.

You’re mean and nasty.

You don't have a degree in accounting.

Or, and this is my personal favorite, the moronic view that you just want people to read your blog.

Yeh, that’s it. It has nothing to do with the money they’re robbing from me and my family. I just want more hits on my volunteer blog.  Clueless.

When was the last time any elected city of Franklin official admitted he/she made a mistake, an error in judgment, especially when it came to budgeting?  Get back to me on that one, ok?

The city of Franklin should be in great budget shape given the budget reform tools supplied by Governor Scott Walker. And it is.

But along comes Milwaukee County. Rick Romano of FranklinNOW who, although he fails to ask the tough questions and merely reports what he’s told, at the very least provides the basics, writes:

"Franklin and Oak Creek are about to receive decidedly smaller EMS subsidies from Milwaukee County, and the fire chiefs of both communities are looking at their options in providing the same level of service.

Both communities, by contract, serve neighboring municipalities who need basic or added coverage, depending on their own emergency service capabilities.

If nothing changes as County Executive Chris Abele prepares to sign off on his budget, Franklin's subsidy will be reduced from $250,000 to $100,000 and Oak Creek's will slide from $275,000 to $100,000."

Franklin’s shortfall in this case amounts to $150,000.

$150,000.

Hmmmm.

By any chance, isn’t that the exact amount the city of Franklin squandered on…

Those useless, antiquated, wasteful tornado warning sirens?
