Dear Governor Thompson,

I am writing to wholeheartedly endorse your candidacy for the United States Senate!  I can't tell you how pleased and grateful I am that you are stepping up to serve our country during these difficult times.  Wisconsinites and the American people need you in the U.S. Senate.

As an author, radio host, and son of the greatest President in American history, Ronald Reagan, I have met plenty of solid conservatives in my time.  However, your record as Governor of Wisconsin stands out among the very best. 

As governor, you helped lead a conservative revolution by working tirelessly to dramatically cut taxes, reduce burdensome regulations, create good jobs and enact the first and largest School Choice program in the nation.  Your leadership and vision resulted in a period of unbridled success for the people of Wisconsin.

For me, and many others, your welfare reform initiatives stand out not only for becoming the model for the United States, but for creating a blueprint on how to successfully inject market-based principles into reforming entitlement programs.   The relationship between you and President Reagan on this issue is especially historic as my father provided your very first waiver to start implementing the reforms that broke a cycle of government dependency, returned power to the states and ended welfare as we knew it.

Perhaps it was the close relationship you and my father developed on this initiative and your shared philosophy of limited government that led President Reagan to endorse your previous campaigns.  In fact, he said in no uncertain terms, “I think I recognize good governor material when I see it, and believe me, Tommy Thompson is the best.”

Now, more than ever, America needs your leadership.  Like my father, you believe that our great nation’s strength lies in our individual freedoms and the ingenuity of our people – not in the growth of government.  I have absolute confidence that you will help lead the fight to restore America as the “Shining City on a Hill.”
