Conservatively Speaking

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Lazich Reacts to Planned Parenthood's Distorted Analysis

Planned Parenthood announced today that it is indefinitely suspending its use of chemical abortions in Wisconsin.  The decision allegedly results from the approval of a state law requiring abortion providers meet a minimum standard of care.

In response, State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), author of the bill, issued the following statement.

“Planned Parenthood’s decision is an attention-seeking flawed characterization of the bill’s language.  After hearing hours of testimony from women explaining their experience with abortion trauma, the legislature enacted minimum safety standards.  The bill’s language clearly does not ban the use of mifepristone, commonly referred to as RU-486, or the use of chemicals to induce abortions.

“Planned Parenthood is free to continue or discontinue providing chemical abortions.  Ultimately, its decision today has nothing to do with the law.  It is a thinly veiled attempt to manufacture evidence of a fabricated war on women.  It is a poor fabrication at best.

“Unsurprisingly, the impact of the bill is grossly misstated.  For example, the claim that doctors will face criminal charges for women failing to return for a follow-up is patently false.

“In reality, the bill ensures women receive the procedural regimen recommended by the Food and Drug Administration and the National Abortion Federation.  Planned Parenthood either believes it is incapable of meeting those standards or has chosen political games rather than conform to nationally-recognized best practices.”
