QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"You might not be ready for diplomacy with Beijing if you can't visit the Olympics without insulting our closest ally.”
President Obama at the DNC referring to the British taking offense to Republican challenger Mitt Romney's assessment of the Summer Olympics.

"All they have to offer is the same prescription they've had for the last thirty years: Have a surplus? Try a tax cut. Deficit too high? Try another. Feel a cold coming on? Take two tax cuts, roll back some regulations, and call us in the morning!"
President Obama at the DNC

"I never said this journey would be easy, and I won't promise that now. Yes, our path is harder - but it leads to a better place. Yes our road is longer - but we travel it together. We don't turn back. We leave no one behind. We pull each other up. We draw strength from our victories, and we learn from our mistakes, but we keep our eyes fixed on that distant horizon, knowing that Providence is with us, and that we are surely blessed to be citizens of the greatest nation on Earth."
President Obama at the DNC

"You want to know whether we're better off? I've got a little bumper sticker for you: Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive."
VP Biden to a crowd in Detroit

"Ask Osama bin Laden if he is better off now than he was four years ago."
Senator John Kerry at the DNC

"In Tampa, the Republican argument against the president's re-election was pretty simple: 'We left him a total mess, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so fire him and put us back in.' "
Bill Clinton at the DNC

"President Obama started with a much weaker economy than I did. No president - not me or any of my predecessors could have fully repaired all the damage he found in just four years. But conditions are improving and if you'll renew the President's contract you will feel it. ... I believe that with all my heart."
Bill Clinton at the DNC

"If you're a donor to President Obama's campaign, you were promised exclusive access to Joe Biden – and for an extra $10,000 absolutely no access to Joe Biden."
Conan O'Brien

"What a difference four years makes. At the last Democratic Convention the theme was 'hope and change' this time it’s 'hope you don’t make a change.'"
Jay Leno

"There are reports that nine of the hotels being used for politicians at the Democratic National Convention have bedbugs. When asked what it’s like to have to deal with thousands of ruthless bloodsuckers, the bedbugs were like, 'Eh, it's OK.'"
Jimmy Fallon

"The Democratic Convention is $27 million in debt. They had to cancel the kick-off event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. A speedway is the perfect place for the Democratic Convention. You go around in circles, turn left every few seconds, and you end up right where you started."
Jay Leno

“President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. Romney and Ryan would do a much better job running the country, and that’s what everybody needs to know. I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle.”
Clint Eastwood in an interview with the Carmel Pine Cone newspaper
