Oh, Say Have You Heard?
I admit it. My taste in music leans toward “fogey.” I couldn’t name one Top 40 group from this year or the last ten for that matter. Nothing from current bands appeals to me. I like the classics from decades ago: Sinatra, Bennett and Dean Martin as well as contemporary versions of their genre: Diana Krall, Michael Buble, etc. I love Smooth Jazz; while purists might argue it’s not anything close to Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong I’ll take Dave Koz and Boney
Today, however, my listening habits have been changed. Forever. And for the better. Through a simple forwarded email I discovered the sound of Madison Rising. To say they are “rockers” is an understatement. The band members say their musical tastes were influenced by Black Sabbath and all of them like Metallica.
Wait a minute, you say. “You… Sweet Polly Purebred have a new affinity for a bunch of singers in black leather with piercings and tattoos?” You bet I do. When they appear on Glenn Beck’s show, play at benefit concerts honoring military dogs, and are veterans themselves, how can I NOT love them? When they are part of the National Anthem Celebration Foundation, how can I not take notice?
In a time when Christina Aguilera can’t even get the lyrics right for the Super Bowl, these gents are belting out our National Anthem proudly, in a way I can guarantee you’ve never heard before. I have officially “liked” them on Facebook. I would attend one of their concerts in a heartbeat. And if I actually owned an iPod I would definitely purchase a download.
Check out their official website here. You know you want to find out more about them, so you can read a great article here. As a finale, watch their blow-you-away rendition of the best song for the best country, ever, here:
