Ms. Elaine Kneeous

Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Follow her blog of all things miscellaneous including but not limited to cooking and baking, entertaining and party planning, being a mommy, and homekeeping.

It's December 26th and I would like to wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS

Are you in a Christmas coma today?  We are.  It’s going to be a take-it-easy sort of day for me and Kyla; Kevin had to work but things are slow in his office today as well.  I’ve always loved the day after Christmas as a day to enjoy things at my own pace.  With Kyla getting more toys than you could imagine these last couple years, December 26 has been a day of boxes, assembly, games and discovery.

Many people are out scouring post-Christmas sales, returning and exchanging, and spending those gift cards that are burning a hole in the pocket.  Retailers are hoping for a last-minute profit boost.  They are also piling all the Christmas items into a corner with huge “CLEARANCE” signs to make room for the Valentine’s and St. Patty’s items.  Think I’m kidding?  One store I was in two weeks ago ALREADY had V-Day stuff displayed.

“It is interesting that our consumer culture has seen an opportunity to extend Christmas with an exceptionally early start to the marketing of Christmas-related products, decorations, candy and music. However, this move -- "beginning Christmas" as early as October -- is both redundant and a reversal of the proper season.”

Daniel P. Horan, OFM

So many – TOO many – people are taking down their trees and putting away the decorations.  I’ll pay off your mortgage if you can find me a local radio station that is still playing Christmas carols.  No one has a problem with Christmas displays put up the day after Halloween but somehow it’s an atrocity if things are in view at 12:01 am on 12/26.

I don’t get it.  I never will.  As I’ve mentioned in the past our tree stays up until the Epiphany.  Most if not all of our decorations do, actually.  I really don’t understand how people who celebrate CHRISTMAS in the truest sense of the word think everything ends on December 25th.

I’m in complete agreement with Daniel P. Horan, OFM as quoted above.  Please enjoy his entire article here.

And once again, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
