Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Frozen, Maleficent, and a small dilemma

As a family we love Disney’s Frozen and all the fun associated with it.  But Kevin & I have different opinions on whether it was, in retrospect, appropriate for Kyla and others her age.  He thought some scenes and the death of Anna & Elsa’s parents were too intense for youngsters.  I thought that due to the film being animated and the way the deaths were introduced that it wasn’t too traumatic.  After all, I argue, there’s nothing sweet & cuddly about Mufasa being killed in The Lion King.  Kyla was not overly troubled by Anna & Elsa losing their parents, although she did ask why it had to happen.  I explained why, as best I could, and that was pretty much the end of it.

With Maleficent opening this Friday, Kevin is eager to take another family trip to the theater.  Now I am the one who is hesitant.  With this being a live action film and not animation, my concern is that the scenes are extremely powerful and could be a bit much for Kyla to handle.  Naturally Kevin feels otherwise.

We’ll show her some trailers and judge her reaction.  I’m willing to bet that ultimately we WILL see the movie together.  If any point gets too scary that’s what a hug and a cuddle in mom’s lap are for.

It made me wonder what other parents thought and how they felt about their offspring seeing this new Disney movie.  How about an answer from a mom who couldn’t possibly be any closer to the film?  Angelina Jolie herself weighs in.
