THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY: Partly cloudy. High of 64  "B"

SUNDAY:  Mostly cloudy. High of 60.  "C"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

I have written many times about how I feel that dogs share, or at least mirror, our feelings as our pets.  We, as their owners, also “interpret” how they are feeling, what they are thinking, etc.  We figure that no one else knows them like we do, and that we can understand what they are going through.

It’s usually the non-pet owners that think we are crazy.  Some people just don’t understand the connection we have with our pets.  I know a Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier that I swear can read my mind when he looks at me.  I’ve never in my life felt such a dog-human connection and he’s not even MY dog!

I tend to be a “warm and fuzzy,” believe-on-faith, follow your heart kind of person.  So if I think a dog can read my mind so to speak, I just go with it.  I don’t need a research project to substantiate my feelings.  However, when scientific proof allows me to smirk and nod at the doubters out there, I love it!

Jeffrey Mogil, a psychologist and neuroscientist at McGill University in Montreal, has recent published a study that shows pets do, indeed, feel emotions in a very similar way to their human owners.

So the next time you think that Roxy looks a bit irritated, or that Max seems sad, you can thank Jeffrey Mogil and his intensive research  for a glimpse into our pets’ psyches.
