It's Official!  Ron Johnson is Endorsed for U.S. Senate

It's official! The Wisconsin Right to Life Political Action Committee has endorsed Ron Johnson for U.S. Senate. Frankly, this was an easy endorsement to make. Russ Feingold is the hardest of hard-core pro-abortion U.S. Senators.   The May 18 blog featured the exchange that took place on the U.S. Senate floor in 1996 between Senator Rick Santorum and Sen Feingold in which Feingold essentially stated that if a baby was completely born in a failed partial-birth abortion attempt, it was still a decision between the mother and her doctor as to what should happen to the baby.

Ron Johnson is not only a strong advocate for the right-to-life, but he is very electable -- a key criteria for endorsement.   A May 25 Rasmussen Reports poll of likely Wisconsin voters shows Feingold at 46% and Johnson at 44%.  Johnson is now airing television commercials which should increase his name ID and let people know there is a very real alternative to Feingold.

A New Twist to Elder Abuse

One of the most powerful arguments we as opponents of assisted suicide and euthanasia use is that these acts can be tantamount to elder abuse.   Family members and/or medical professionals  can abuse their power over vulnerable individuals by intimidating them into "choosing" assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Now, Compassion and Choices (C&C), the nation's leading proponent of assisted suicide and euthanasia, is trying to put a new twist on elder abuse.  Recognizing the power of the elder abuse argument for opponents, C&C writes on its website that, in recognition of World Elder Abuse Prevention Day, we should focus on a "rarely recognized" and "never punished" form of elder abuse -- "the pain, torture and invasion of bodily integrity from 'heroic' and futile medical procedures associated with end-of-life care."

"Add to this scene severe and unnecessary suffering from inadequate treatment of pain," says C&C and they conclude that assisted suicide and euthanasia are the answer.   Excuse me, but wouldn't it be simpler to just work to relieve pain as so many in the medical profession are now doing?  And, to respect the right of patients to refuse treatment?

Then comes the real motivation behind the C&C onslaught:  "When institutions withhold vital information about medical practices like terminal sedation or aid in dying [C&C euphemism for assisted suicide], which they deem immoral, and hold patients hostage to their own beliefs in the redemptive power of suffering, that is elder abuse....Catholic facilities that enforce gag rules and bar conversations about legal aid in dying, even when a patient inquires, are doing just that in Oregon and Washington."

It's those bad Catholics again, trying to invoke conscience protections for their medical professionals and facilities.   And, that is C&C's goal -- first to legalize; then, to eliminate conscience protections so that assisted suicide and euthanasia can be mainstreamed and available anywhere.

Madison Abortionist Dutton Heading to Harvard

Caryn Dutton (we refuse to call her a doctor) lasted only 1 1/2 years as Planned Parenthood's Madison abortion clinic abortionist.  Dutton is also one of the architects of the late-term abortion plan hatched and abandoned at the Madison Surgery Center and the individual who was slated to perform those abortions. Harvard has beckoned and Dutton will follow. Our gain, their loss.

UW continues to put on a bold face, stating that plans have not changed to do late-term abortions but a new person will be found to do them.   Perhaps.   The late-term abortion plan was approved 16 months ago. UW has been damaged through its involvement in this scheme.  No facility is clamoring to take up the banner of late-term abortions to help save Madison's reputation.  Perhaps.

Elena Kagen's Views are Pro-Abortion Across the Board

U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan holds the obvious position in favor of legal abortion, given that she was nominated by an ardently pro-abortion President Obama.    As a policy advisor to President Clinton, Kagan was heavily involved in helping Clinton justify his vetoes of  bans on partial-birth abortions.  But Kagan's anti-life views go well beyond the abortion issue.

Newly-released documents indicate Kagan wrote that it was "fairly terrible idea" for Congress to make assisted suicide a federal crime.  And documents from the Clinton library reveal the role Kagan played in shaping policy on human cloning.  Researched by Americans United for Life (AUL), these documents show Kagan advocating for a policy which would allow the creation of cloned human embryos for research purposes -- the so-called "clone and kill" position which would allow scientists to create cloned embryos and kill them for research purposes but prohibit allowing them to develop to term.  You can find the details at AUL's website at www.aul.org

Kagan is becoming the right-to-life movement's worst nightmare.

Help in Campaign to "Opt-Out" of Obamacare - Sign the Petition!

Wisconsin Right to Life is working with several legislators on legislation which will allow Wisconsin to opt-out of abortion coverage in the state-based insurance “exchanges” created by Obamacare.  Polling indicates that citizens do not want to subsidize abortion coverage or pay for abortions.

The new law requires federal agencies to subsidize and administer health plans that will pay for elective abortions.   The law also opens the door to direct federal funding of abortion in Community Health Centers, hundreds of which are operated by Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest abortion provider.

The Executive Order signed by President Obama, widely and inaccurately reported as prohibiting taxpayer abortion funding under the law, cannot overrule the abortion impact of the law.   Unfortunately, the opt-out provision can only be applied to abortion coverage.   Action at the federal level will be needed to negate the impact of direct abortion funding at Community Health Centers.

Opt-out legislation cannot be introduced until January of 2011.  Wisconsin Right to Life is promoting a petition to our new Governor, who will take office then, letting him know that thousands of Wisconsin citizens want Wisconsin to opt-out of subsidizing abortions through health insurance under Obamacare.

You can download the opt-out petition here.   Or, you can sign up online and urge your friends and email address book to do so also.
