When I heard this story, I just couldn't believe it

I’ve been in the broadcast business for over 30 years and have covered countless stories. Some of them have been major including the Jeffrey Dahmer case, the onslaught of cryptosporidium, the Brewers 1982 World Series run, and more elections than I can remember.

Just when you think you’ve seen or heard everything, something else comes along that truly amazes.

Such is the case with this news item that I’m about to share with you.

I’m not sure I can recall anything quite like it.

The details are astounding and when I’m through sharing, I’m positive you will agree with me.

The story begins, almost unbelievably with

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

Umm, hello.

Is this working?

Yes?

No?

It is.

OK.

We are sorry to interrupt Kevin Fischer’s phenomenally popular blog but we must.

This is NOW Online Editor Mark Maley coming to you with an important FranklinNOW announcement.

You see, Franklin is the only municipality in Milwaukee County without tornado warning sirens.

I happen to know that with great authority because I think I read it somewhere on FranklinNOW.com.

Well, since we have no tornado warning sirens, I felt as the editor it was critical that I inform you……..bad weather is coming. Yes, it’s true. You may not want to believe it since some loud blaring siren has not gone off and will not go off. However, WTMJ TV has been reporting since 3:00 this afternoon that severe storms are likely later tonight.

I felt given our FranklinNOW coverage that Franklin is still without a tornado warning siren that it was imperative we get the word out of impending bad weather.

WTMJ-TV reports a wave of severe thunderstorms will hit our area with potentially damaging winds around 10:00 tonight.

This message is especially directed at those of you residing in Franklin that:

Do not own a weather radio.

Do not have a TV.

Do not have AM or FM radio.

Do not have Internet (and might be reading this at a friend’s house or the library)

Do not have windows.

My God, both of you, please, if you know what’s good for you, be aware that these storms that are pretty standard during the summer season, are heading our way.

You will not, I repeat, you will not hear a warning siren.

Should you be outside when it starts raining, FranklinNOW advises that you consider the following:

1) Go inside.

2)

Ummm.

Yes.  Go inside.

Again, we felt this was important enough to interrupt Mr. Fischer’s blog because our local government is not equipped at this time to warn you via siren that inclement weather is imminent.

We hope you found this information helpful.

We now return you to This Just in….

Kevin…..

Kevin…..

Oh, Kevinnnnnnnn…..

Well, ahem, it appears we have lost our connection to This Just In… Kevin’s probably researching another blog on dogs or something. Yes, that must be it.

We, uhh, oh my, this has never happened on the NOW sites before.

We will notify our crack IT staff and Kevin will return to the blogosphere as soon as possible.

In the meantime, the rain, folks. Remember, the rain.

This is Mark Maley bidding you a pleasant and safe goodnight.
