Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely baby daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

She’s a pretty young woman with blonde hair and a beautiful smile.
Her name is Angie. Angie has been married to a nearly lifelong friend of mine’s son for about a year and a half.
Earlier this month, Angie had a double mastectomy. Some lymph nodes were also removed. Her relatives and friends hoped and prayed the worst was over.
But Angie developed severe headaches, and when the pain got too intense, she went to the hospital where she got more gut-wrenching news. The cancer has spread and she’s now fighting a brain tumor.
Today in
Friday night at the high school football game I worked at, I spoke with an older gentleman who has been through several bypasses. We agreed that modern medicine has made tremendous strides. But there are two sides to that coin. Despite all the funding and generous donations and ongoing research, there remain unsolved questions that leave far too many people asking why? Why? Why me? Why now?
Life isn’t even close to being fair.

OCTOBER IS NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
Last weekend, I blogged about my friend’s daughter-in-law, who is suffering from the worst form of breast cancer.
Angie definitely falls into the category of patients diagnosed with cancer who use their sickness to try to help others.
Since learning of her cancer, Angie has been keeping a journal about her status. Please check out her blog and consider sending a supportive comment.
The not-so-happy holidays

There is no perfect holiday. Everyone has a story about a situation, whether it be family-related, the loss of a job, or the death of a loved one that can make the holidays less merry.
This year, I lost a cousin to brain cancer. Last week, a former colleague of mine at the state Capitol died of brain cancer. He left a wife and two sons. He was 38.
This week, one of my wife’s co-workers arrived home to find her husband dead from a heart attack on their garage floor. And a good friend’s daughter-in-law, whom I have blogged about, Angie, continues to fight cancer. She’s endured a double mastectomy and now is battling brain and spinal problems.
There is no good time for all of this. But now is the worst. The obvious question is why? I don’t claim to know the answer. I suppose there is magic in the phrase, Count your blessings.??
Another question is how, how do you cope, especially at this time of year with the loss of someone dear and special. The ever-accessible Internet just might be of some help.

Over the past several months, I’ve blogged about a friend, 28-year old Angie Wenzel, a courageous woman battling for her life. Tonight, there was just too much cancer, too much sickness to fight any longer.
