Polish Center hosts Mickiewicz in Music

Franklin — The Polish Center of Wisconsin, 6941 S. 68th St., will host Mickiewicz in Music at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.

Local musicians will perform the words of Poland's heralded poet set to the music of Polish composers.

Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Tickets for students with a valid ID cost $5. The event is free for children 12 and younger. All proceeds will benefit The Polish Center in its mission to strengthen and promote an understanding of Polish culture.

Expo features arts, crafts and gourmet treats

Franklin — The Milwaukee County Sports Complex, 6000 W. Ryan Road, will host the Holiday Craft and Gift Expo from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 30 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1.

Exhibitors will offer arts and crafts along with handmade confectionery items. Vendors will sell food and beverage concessions.

Admission costs $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6. Parking is free in the adjacent lot.

Learn about accelerated degree programs at open house

Oak Creek — Milwaukee Area Technical College, 6665 S. Howell Ave., will host an open house for prospective students interested in accelerated associate degree programs from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5.

Attendees will meet with program faculty and current students, receive detailed information about specific programs and how they will help students reach career goals, learn about four-year college transfer options, obtain information about financial aid, and can apply for admission for the spring 2014 semester, which begins Jan. 21. Attendees who plan to apply for admission should bring a copy of their high school or college transcript.

Village tree lighting on tap Dec. 7

Hales Corners — The village will hold its tree-lighting ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 outside the Hales Corners Public Library, 5885 S. 116th St.

The Whitnall Middle School band will perform in the library parking lot at 6 p.m.

Santa will arrive about 6:20 p.m. with help from the Hales Corners Fire Department.

After the tree is lit, the library will have hot chocolate, homemade cookies and holiday stories.

The event is free.

Receive crown, trophy at Christmas pageant

Greendale — Southridge Mall, 5300 S. 76th St., will host the Miss Merry Christmas Pageant at 11 a.m. Dec. 14.

All participants will receive a crown and trophy.

Winterfest features walk, children's activities

Hales Corners — The Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens will hold Winterfest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at the gardens, 9400 Boerner Drive.

Activities will include a walk in the woods, food and refreshments, children's activities and storytelling.
