Greendale — Another restaurant will join the Southridge Mall food court soon. And it's a local.
Jake's Deli, a Milwaukee-established restaurant, aims to open a new deli inside the mall by the end of December.
"We're really excited about the new location," said Rob Frost, director of marketing for Jake's Deli. "We think we'll provide something people will love. ... We know the community of Greendale can really get behind a local business."
Established in 1955 on North Avenue, Jake's Deli later expanded with a location in Grand Avenue Mall and a concession stand inside the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The Greendale location will be the deli's first restaurant outside the city of Milwaukee.
"In addition to the (mall's) national chains, it's always nice to have some local representation," said Mary Mokwa, general manager of Southridge. "(Jake's Deli) is a real blue ribbon for us. ... It will expand our choices."
Jake's Deli is known for its fresh ingredients and hand-carved sandwiches, which are prepared in front of the customer. The Greendale deli will offer its traditional menu of pastrami sandwiches and homemade soups, but also will introduce four new sandwiches at the Southridge location.
"We really have an authentic flavor," Frost said. "There will be nothing else like us in the food court."
Frost said the company hopes to have the deli open before Christmas.
"We're building it as fast as we can," he said.
