Greendale — Greendale will celebrate its 76th anniversary this weekend during the 2014 Village Days, a three-day celebration rich with concerts, children's games, a large rummage sale and a parade.
Village Days begins on Friday and ends Sunday, a slightly shorter interval than last's year's celebration, said Carolann Matzek, chairwoman for the Public Celebrations Committee and secretary of the Greendale Entertainment Association.
"Last year was the village's 75th anniversary, and so we extended the celebrations by including Thursday," Matzek said. "This year's Village Days may not be as grand as last year's … but we're expecting 10,000 or more people to come. It's going to be a lot of fun."
Village Days activities will be held downtown, along Broad Street. The Greendale Entertainment Association beer tent and main stage will be located on Parking Street, and the Greendale Lions Club food and beer garden will be located in the Gazebo Park.
All the events are free to attend.
A family entertainment area will offer family-friendly activities throughout Village Days, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday with children's games and rides. Magic shows, juggling acts and dance performances are scheduled throughout the celebration. An outdoor movie, Disney's "Frozen," will run around 8 p.m. Saturday along with an ice cream social in Daffodil Park, 5636 Broad Street.
Musical performances on the main stage include the Kris Crow Band at 9 p.m. Friday, Oil Can Harry at 7 p.m. Saturday and The Acoustix at 1 p.m. Sunday.
A full schedule of family events and music performances can be found at Greendaleentertainment.com/village.php.
The Greendale Lions Club will also host musical performances at its beer garden. Acts include Freddy and The Cruisers on Friday at 6 p.m., Hat Trick on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Kevin Kennedy on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Lions Club is also sponsoring "Rummage On The Green" on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We usually get between 120 and 150 sellers for the rummage sale," Matzek said. "It's a real hoot."
The Greendale Library Foundation will hold its annual book sale Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the lower level of the Community Learning Center and Health Department, 5647 Broad Street.
A parade will begin at noon Sunday, beginning at the corner of Northway and Grange Avenue and concluding at Brinkman Field on Southway.
"The parade is a really big deal," Matzek said. "The parade includes about 100 acts, ranging from animals and clowns to all sorts of things."
Village Days will conclude with a performance by the Greendale Village Concert Band at 7 p.m. Sunday at the gazebo.
