Library will offer users more digital materials

Oak Creek - The Oak Creek Public Library, 8620 S. Howell Ave., has joined a statewide e-book buying pool.

As part of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System, the library is participating in a $1 million purchase of digital materials, which can be accessed through the library's website or at http://dbbbooks.wplc.info.

Offerings include e-books, audio books, videos and music that can be downloaded to iPods or other MP3 players, Kindles, Nooks, iPads and Sony e-readers.

Oak Creek Library Director Jill Lininger said the purchase is a reallocation of money already in the library's 2012 budget and will not increase operating expenses.

Senior center receives award to buy large-print books

Greendale - Golden Living Center Heritage Square, a senior rehabilitation at 5404 W. Loomis Road, awarded a 2011 Grant-A-Wish gift of $150 the Wilson Park Senior Center to purchase large-print books for its library.

The center, at 2601 W. Howard Ave., is managed by Interfaith Older Adults Programs.

Woman's club accepting scholarship applications

Hales Corners - The Hales Corners Woman's Club is accepting scholarship applications until March 31 from qualifying high school seniors and adult women returning to or presently enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical school.

All high school seniors attending Whitnall High School their entire senior year or living in the Whitnall School District are eligible to apply. A $1,000 high school scholarship is offered to girls and boys who are planning to attend an accredited college or university, school of nursing, or technical school.

In addition, one $1,000 scholarship will be offered to an adult woman living in the Whitnall School District who is returning to or presently enrolled in an accredited school of higher learning.

Application forms are available from the guidance office at Whitnall High School, 5000 S. 116th St., and at the Hales Corners Library, 5885 S. 116th Street. Call (262) 784-7916 for information.

The Hales Corners Woman's Club has awarded scholarships since 1962.

Meeting on extending Lake Parkway set

South Milwaukee - A public meeting to discuss a possible extension of the Lake Parkway from Edgerton Avenue Highway 100 in Milwaukee County will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 29 at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, 901 15th Ave.

All are invited to attend the public meeting to learn more about the study, ask questions, and provide feedback and comments. Written comments may also be submitted through March 15 via email, lakeparkway@sewrpc.org, or regular mail, Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, W239 N1812 Rockwood Drive, P.O. Box 1607, Waukesha, WI 53187-1607.

The study is being prepared by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission at the request of Milwaukee County and the cities of Cudahy, Oak Creek, St. Francis and South Milwaukee.
