Panthers climb ladder, finish second in Woodland
Greendale won seven of 11 before regional play
Greendale - The offense was in high gear on both sides as the Greendale baseball team swept South Milwaukee in Woodland Conference action last week.
The Panthers outslugged the Rockets, 10-8 on July 11 and 13-8 on July 12.
"We've been scoring runs on everyone," said assistant coach Mike Drilling. "The problem has been keeping other people from scoring on us."
Greendale, seeded fifth in its sectional, started WIAA tournament play on Tuesday against that same South Milwaukee team. If the Panthers won, they would return to South Milwaukee for sectional action at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The winner goes to the sectional title contest at 4:30 p.m. later that day, also at South Milwaukee.
The Panthers also topped St. Francis, 3-1, on July 14, lost a doubleheader to Waukesha West, 13-7 and 7-5, on Friday and fell to West Bend West, 12-7, on Saturday.
Greendale 10, SM 8: Kyle Senft collected a double and home run, driving in four runs, while Brandon Kurczewski had two hits and three RBI and Eric Hoefs and Mike Prescott two hits apiece.
Greendale tallied three runs in the sixth to wipe out an 8-7 Rocket advantage.
Greendale 13, SM 8: Kennedy Ringelberg and Prescott both homered and drove in two runs, while Hoefs had two hits and a pair of RBI for the team, which tallied 10 runs combined in the fifth and sixth.
Greendale 3, St. Francis 1: Ringelberg had two hits and Hoefs allowed four hits in seven innings.
The victory allowed the Panthers, winners of seven of 11, to finish 11-6 in the Woodland Black Division, tied with Greenfield for second place behind New Berlin Eisenhower.
"We are pleased with that," Drilling said. "Two weeks ago, I wouldn't have thought we could get second."
