South girls track wrap-up: May 14

Franklin

Falling less than one-half point short of winning the Southeast Conference Relays at Burlington on May 5 did not ruin the day the for Sabers coach Jack Hervert.

"We totally surprised a good number of teams," Hervert said. "Our staff has worked very hard, and the results (many of them personal records) of many of the events were absolutely outstanding.

"The kids have been committed to the program and have put in quality work. It did sting a little, coming up a half point short, but the way we competed, and seeing how much fun they were having while doing so, far and away erases any feelings of disappointment."

The chase for the title came down to the final event, the 1,600-meter relay. The Sabers needed to finish third to clinch the meet, but finished fourth despite a season-best time of 4 minutes, 14.58 seconds. Case won, and finished the meet with 78.49 points. Franklin totaled 78.

The sprint medley team of Casey Schott, Brittany Campos, Sarah Talbot and Erica Rasmussen gave the Sabers one of their two event victories, coming in at 1:56.88.
