Layups. Three-pointers. And everything in between. For 9½ minutes of the second half Friday, virtually everything New Berlin Eisenhower's girls basketball team tossed up found the bottom of the net.
Ernie Valente left quite a first impression in leading the Greendale Panthers to a 38-14 victory over visiting Milwaukee Lutheran on Thursday to open the 2009 football season.
Both starting pitchers had a say Tuesday in Greendale's 12-0, five-inning victory over St. Thomas More in a summer baseball regional final.
Abby Starker's time came in the second half, when she scored two goals and helped Whitefish Bay defeat the Panthers, 2-0. The Blue Dukes (15-5-3) advance to play defending Division 1 state champion Divine Savior Holy Angels, which defeated Nicolet, 3-0, in the other sectional semifinal.
"Redemption" is the slogan of the Whitnall girls basketball team this season and, so far, the Falcons have been living up to their word. On Tuesday night, Whitnall found a brand new level of defensive intensity, avenging its only Woodland Conference loss with a commanding victory over Greendale.
