Don & Sallie Davis Boys & Girls Club (Formerly Irving J. Seher Club) Celebrates 50 Years of Service to Milwaukee’s Youth

Aug. 10, 2013

(Milwaukee) August 7, 2013  Don & Sallie Davis (formerly Irving J. Seher) Boys & Girls Club, located at 1975 S. 24th St., will celebrate its 50th anniversary with day-long activities on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Davis Boys & Girls Club is the largest of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee’s 36 sites. Each day, an average of more than 300 members, ages 5 to 18, attend the Club.

From noon to 4 p.m., the Davis Boys & Girls Club will host an open house. It will consist of tours and a community gathering. That evening, there will be a dinner at the Hyatt Regency, located at 333 W. Kilbourn Ave., from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Among its highlights will be the first induction ceremony for the Davis Boys & Girls Club Wall of Fame honoring Don Davis, former CEO of Rockwell Automation and National Governor for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and his wife Sallie, along with Roy Bubeck, CEO of Badger Mutual. Seher/Davis Club alumni are invited and the public is welcomed and encouraged to attend both events.

Both past and current local Boys & Girls Clubs leadership are excited about the Davis Boys & Girls Club’s anniversary.

“I’ve met a number of Club alumni who share with me how much the Irving J. Seher/Don & Sallie Davis Boys & Girls Club meant to them growing up,” says Vincent Lyles, President & CEO of BGCGM. “Today, as it was then, the Club means a lot to the children and families we serve on Milwaukee’s South Side.”

“Of my 38 years in Boys & Girls Club work, serving as the Unit Director of the Irving J. Seher Club was personally the most impactful and rewarding experience of my professional career. The Club facilities, quality staff, scope of programs and services, community support and the large number of youth served annually made the Seher Club one of the finest in the nation, which it continues to be today,” says Chris Protz, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry in Hilton Head, S. C.
