Historic Jeremiah Curtin House opens for free summer tours
The Jeremiah Curtin House - Grange Avenue just west of 84th Street, Greendale - is open Sundays from 1 to 5 (except holiday weekends) now through Sunday, Oct. 11. Closed holidays.
The Jeremiah Curtin House was built in 1846, the first stone house in the old Town of Greenfield. David Curtin, an Irish immigrant, built the house with the help of an Irish stone mason using stone from the quarry north of Grange Avenue. The Curtin House is important historically as a physcial reminder of Milwaukee County’s early Irish settlement and also as th boyhood home of Jeremiah Curtin, an accomplished linguist, author, and world traveler. The Curtin House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Milwaukee County Landmark.
