Taste of Home gives back to the Milwaukee community during National Cooks Who Care Week, November 9-15
At Taste of Home magazine, getting into the holiday spirit begins in the kitchen and continues in the community with acts of kindness. Last year, Taste of Home declared the second week in November National Cooks Who Care Week — to celebrate the generosity of those who are giving back through food-related efforts. The purpose of Cooks Who Care is to use one's passion for food and cooking to benefit those in need. There's no limit to the possibilities!
How Taste of Home is Participating (And You Can, Too!)
Community-Wide Kitchen Drive: Taste of Home employees will host a kitchen drive to completely outfit 24 apartment kitchens for United Methodist Children's Services’ Washington Park Apartments in Milwaukee, Wisconsin — with everything from pans and utensils to food and appliances. The new apartments will provide housing to families that are trying to get back on their feet.
Before the apartments open in January, Taste of Home employees will set up the kitchens for the new apartments with all of the kitchen gear collected during the drive. The public will have the opportunity to donate their new or "like new" kitchen items at the Taste of Home Outlet Store in downtown Greendale from November 10-13, 2009.
Items that are still needed include: • Towels • Dish Towels • Sponges • Hot Pads • Oven Mitts • Juice Pitchers • Mixing Bowls • Measuring Cups/Spoons • Placemats • Toasters • Cutlery - Bread Knife, Chef Knife, Utility Knife, Paring Knife • Mugs • Glasses/Cups • Bowls • Spatulas • Hand Mixers • Coffee Maker • Thermometers • Cutting Boards • Strainers • Rolling Pin • Cookie Cutters • 5 qt Dutch Oven • Dish Soap • Trash Cans • Garbage Bags
