South Suburban Chamber Honors Black Diamond Group and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Franklin

The South Suburban Chamber honored The Black Diamond Group, Oak Creek, and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Franklin, at its Annual Awards Dinner, on Thursday, January 21 presented by National City, now a part of PNC and cosponsored by Northwestern Mutual and The Executive Committee (TEC.) The Black Diamond Group was named 2009 Business of the Year and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Franklin received the 2009 Pride in Premises Award.

 

Nan Gardetto, owner and DEO of Baptista’s Bakery, Franklin, was the guest speaker at the event at the Clarion Hotel attended by 200 South Suburban Chamber members and business leaders.

 

Deb Teglia, CEO and president of The Black Diamond Group, accepted the Business of the Year award on behalf of her family and all of the employees. The Business of the Year Award is given to a company for their success, their contributions to the local community and to the community at large. In presenting the award, Executive Director, Barbara Wesener, said that the family-owned Black Diamond Group, during its 50 year history, has been an active and generous corporate citizen in Oak Creek, Franklin and the entire southeastern Wisconsin area.

 

Staybridge Suites Milwaukee Airport South and Woodman’s Food Market, Inc. were also recognized as finalists for the Business of the Year.

 

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Franklin, won the Chamber’s Pride in Premises Award and was accepted by Roberta Johnson, vice president of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Franklin. The Pride in Premises Award is given to a company or organization who has demonstrated great care for their physical environment, for their buildings and surroundings. Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Franklin was honored for their environmental stewardship and their landscape design that does not disturb the natural habitat, tree lines and wetlands.

 

Forest Home Animal Clinic and Whitnall Pointe Apartments, both in Franklin, were recognized as finalists for the Pride in Premises Award.

 

The guest speaker for the evening was Nan Gardetto, Baptista’s Bakery owner and CEO who shared the Gardetto’s and Baptista’s stories. She encouraged all business people to honor the call to lead, in whatever form that takes.

 

Other sponsoring companies were Bank Mutual—Oak Creek; Black Diamond Group, Fast Signs, Lynne Broydrick Group, Mark Carstensen Construction and Development Company; Robert W. Baird; We Energies and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital.

 

The South Suburban Chamber of Commerce represents Oak Creek, Franklin and

the surrounding south suburban communities.
